The China Aircraft Strength Research Institute is part of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) and the country's primary centre for aircraft structural strength research and verification. It provides technology services and product support to the aviation, aerospace, weapon, rail-transport and other sectors.
The institute uses a refrigeration system to simulate low-temperature conditions for aircraft structural testing. According to the original project report, Glacier Coolant was selected for this system after a layered screening and research process, and was ultimately approved by the institute for the application.
Ultra-low-temperature, water-insoluble coolants are described in the Glacier catalogue under the LM-6 series — modified hydrocarbon fluids for demanding low-temperature processes, intended for dry, closed systems with nitrogen protection. The catalogue lists an LM-6 model for −130 °C to +30 °C circulation. The original website does not specify which Glacier product was supplied for the aircraft simulation system.
